The Learning Tree offers an after school program for children in Kindergarten through 8th grade. We provide bus transportation from the public schools to St. Margaret's Church where the program is held, supervise homework assignments and offer games, play time and snack. Children can be picked up at St. Margaret's Church (66-20 80th St.) anytime prior to 6:00 PM.
Our after school program is presently serving PS 49Q, PS 58Q, PS 87Q, PS 91Q, PS 113Q, PS 119Q, PS 128Q, PS 153Q and PS 290Q. Other schools can be accommodated, provided there is a sufficient number of students from each location.
Homework
Homework has the dual purpose of reinforcing for the children what they learned in school and letting the parents know what the children are learning in school. Therefore we stress that the homework be neat, complete and be able to show teachers and parents that the children have an understanding of the concepts discussed in class.
We break the children up by grades with counselors at the tables to make sure the children stay on task, check the work when finished and to help with individual problems.
Social Devlopment
Once the children finish their homework they are able to play in the gym. We offer the children a chance for supervised free play which teaches them important social skills such as negotiation, team work, making friends and dealing with winning and losing. Exercise is a critical component of academic success. Children at The Learning Tree develop a strong work ethic towards their school work and personal care when they are rewarded with free play.
School Discipline
One of the benefits of free play is that children have developed the ability to negotiate their own problems without having the counselors constantly intervening. This makes them extremely well behaved! By giving the children what they need most at the end of the day (exercise and free play) they reward us with good behavior.

Price includes:
1. Transportation from your child's school to The Learning Tree.
2. Homework Club - Child does their homework and it is checked for neatness and accuracy by our staff.
3. Snack - Granola bars, pretzels and cookies with water are served daily and pizza is served once a month.
4. Active Play - Board games, crafts, and organized activities are available after children complete their homework. We also have use of two air conditioned gyms for supervised free play.
5. Dismissal is no later than 6:00 P.M.
